5 Restaurants every Desi Must Try in Toronto

I’m sorry, but you cannot call yourself a true foodie if you haven’t gone and had a meal at these restaurants.

1)    Banjara :  Located right near Yonge and Eg, this restaurant has raving reviews, mostly for it’s spicy vindaloo goat, mala packed butter chicken, and buttery naan.  Your mouth is probably watering right now, it’s ok, no one's judging

2)    Little India:  Queen West has a bunch of restaurants, but none beat Little India.  Imagine sitting at a dinner table and before you, there is delicate papadam, zesty eggplant bharta,  aromatic pickled carrots, and then rogan josh lamb.  You can almost taste it, but not quite right? What are you still doing here? Go to Little India!

3)    The Host:  This restaurant will take you back to the days of eating from the stalls on the streets of Mumbai, we guarantee it.  Located at Yorkville, you can travel back in time by ordering bhalla chaat papri, yogurt, potatoes and chickpeas, tamarind chutney combined with crisp, rough wafers.  But, if you want a substantial meal, they also have grilled, tender, meat with elaborate curries.

4)    Udupi Palace:  Vegetarians, look no further!  Located on Bathurst north of Bloor, Udupi Palace specializes in vegetarian South Indian cuisine.  With a relatively low cost ($5- $10) it carries a variety of chaats, uthapam with chutney, and dosas, it’s every vegetarian's dream come true.

5)    Curry Twist:  This restaurant carries dishes that are Mughlai and Northern Indian cuisine types, with dishes such as butter paneer with coriander spiked in, and lamb madras for the meat lovers, as well as a different vegetarian interpretation of their popular chicken.

If you’re still reading this, we apologize for making you all hungry.  But hey, use this to your advantage and go visit these restaurants!
